I grew up enjoying grilled cheese sandwiches made with Velveeta, and I still believe it’s the best choice for this sandwich. It’s flavorful and melts beautifully. If you have brioche bread available, use it—it makes this sandwich taste divine!
Directions
Step 1
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees, if preheating is recommended for your model.
Step 2
Thinly spread mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice. Place one slice of bread, mayonnaise side down, in the air fryer basket and top with the desired amount of cheese. Place the second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side up. Cook until the sandwich is golden and crusty on all sides and the cheese is melted, about 3 minutes per side.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 4 slices white bread
- 4 ounces processed cheese food sliced

Cook’s Note
Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the size and brand, so keep an eye on the sandwiches to prevent burning.
I always use mayonnaise because it’s easy to spread, I don’t have to wait for butter to soften, and it browns beautifully without adding a mayonnaise flavor. However, if you prefer to use butter, that’s perfectly fine—it’s your choice.
